Homework Resources:

How to Choose a Just Right Book

Use the Five Finger Rule:

1. Choose a book and read the first page or two.

2. Put one finger up for every word you do not know.

3. If five of your fingers go up while reading, choose another book.  If only two or three fingers go up, you’ve found a just right book.

Math Fact Practice

Check out the 1st Grade Learning Page and look for Math or Math 2.  Great practice sites are linked there.

The website, mathfactcafe.com, has worksheets that you can print or even create your own worksheet to print.  It has flashcards that you can print, too.

multiplication.com has great games that are not just for multiplication.  The same games are offered for addition and subtraction.  Cone Crazy is a fun one!

The site, XtraMath, is a good for helping students master basic math facts, too.

Other ideas:

-Play with dice.  Roll two dice and you’ve got to numbers to add or subtract!  Throw in another dice for an added challenge.

-Use playing cards and play “War” with a partner.  Each person lays a card down.  The first person to add the two number or subtract them gets the cards.
