Dear 4th & 5th Grade Parents,

All parents are more than welcome to attend graduation and see their sons sing. If you are not attending, please have a designated place to pick-up your son. Graduation day is considered a regular school day. Attendance will be taken and noted. We need all 4th & 5th grade boys in attendance in the choir loft as we honor our 2019 graduating class. If for some reason your son will not be able to attend, please contact his homeroom teacher.
I hope everyone has a restful and exciting summer!
Today, every boy in 1st – 5th grade received a red folder containing his required summer reading and math assignments.
The folders contain all the information your son will need in order to complete his required summer work. Just as last year, all required math assignments are contained within the red folder. If you would like for your son to have additional math practice, he may login to Dreambox (rising 2nd–4th) or IXL (rising 2nd–6th) using his username and password found on the front pocket of the folder.
The school will be open at scheduled times this summer for students to take AR tests. The schedule can be found on the same inside pocket of the red folder.
On the first day of school in August, your son will need to return his completed assignments in the red folder.
Head of Elementary
Dear 4th Grade Parents,
It is an exciting time for the boys as they start to contemplate the new opportunities available to them next year in 5th grade. One of these exciting offerings is the chance to be a part of the Band here at PDS.
The program is designed to give our boys the opportunity to experience making music and to begin a lifelong love of instrumental music. Much has been written about the connection between music and brain development, success in school, and success in life. Learning to play an instrument will be a wonderful extension of what they have already learned in their music classes here at school.
Students in the Band program meet two times each week in the following settings:
*Small Group Lessons: Students are placed in a small group with 3 - 5 classmates that play the same instrument. Students will learn basic techniques of the instrument, how to read music, and how to create a beautiful sound. These lessons take place during the school day on a rotating basis.
*Large Group/Full Band Rehearsal: THURSDAYS from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m. There are no conflicts for any boys who participate in PDS athletics - including our Crusader teams. The large group meeting is designed to help the boys learn to follow a conductor, play in a large group, and to learn some exciting music.
The 4th graders attended a brief presentation last week to introduce them to the various woodwind, brass and percussion instruments that will be offered in Beginning Band.
Much more information and the opportunity to try out some instruments will come at the beginning of next school year. A Parent Meeting and Registration will take place at that time.
**If your son may be interested in learning an instrument, I simply encourage you to keep Thursdays after school available on his activity calendar for next year.
In the meantime, please contact me if you have questions. I am already looking forward to meeting a new group of PDS musicians!
