Teachers Using Google Meet for Live Lessons

Dear 5th and 6th Grade Parents,

I pray this email finds you healthy and hunkering down at home. As we move into our first full week of distance learning, we are very ready to see our students and interact with them face-to-face. This week we will be using Google Meet to meet with students in shortened sessions. Initially, we will prioritize helping the boys understand Google Meet features, take a moment for social interaction, troubleshoot any technology or curricular issues, and provide a bit of instruction. As the week progresses, our focus will become more instructional.

Accessing Epic Outside of School Hours

Parents,

The service we are using to allow access to digital books, Epic, is available free to schools, but only during regular school hours.

While there is a way for the school to extend free access to families through the end of June due to the closure, that would require us to give all of our parent emails to Epic, which is against the school’s privacy policy.

If you want to access Epic outside of school hours you will need to create your own own account. While you do get 30 days for free, you will have to provide a credit card to create the account.

Elementary Distance Learning

Dear Elementary Parents,

We teach our boys to be Bold Adventurers in life, and now it seems we all have an opportunity to be bold as we adjust to a new adventure in teaching and learning. While PDS is quite comfortable with the use of technology as a classroom tool, distance learning is new territory for us all. Thank you in advance for your flexibility as we work to balance the health of our community and the pursuit of academics.

Here is an overview of what you can expect while we conduct school from home.

Connecting PDS Devices to Home Internet for SK-6th Grades

PDS uses an off-campus filter called Captive Portal, which your son will have to sign into once every five days. Here is a video demonstration of how to do this on an iPad:.

UPDATE 3/24/20:

The PDS Technology Department has removed the Captive Portal from your son’s PDS iPad. You will no longer have to log in to that site. By the end of Wednesday, these devices will now be filtered through Relay.
