Grizzlies at PDS: Boys, Teachers, Parents and Alums Create Life-Size Grizzlies

Grizzlies spirit has struck PDS, and it's soon to be (weather permitting) on display for all driving by on Poplar Avenue.

Members of the PDS community have collaborated on the design and creation of a wooden, eight-foot tall set of Grizzlies (the five starters, plus Coach Hollins and Griz). "We want to show our support of the team and love of Memphis," says Headmaster Lee Burns.

Grizz-Cutouts

Individuals involved in the project include PDS boys Kemp Conrad (2nd grade), Andrew Dobbs (2nd grade), Tre Johnson (5th grade), Robert King (4th grade), Matt Michael (5th grade), Edwin Rawson (5th grade), Thomas Rogers (5th grade), Blake Sexton (5th grade), Russell Williamson (5th grade), and Andrew Xu (2nd grade).

Two PDS alums, Jackson Pacheco and Shea Gabrielleschi, joined the current PDS boys in offering their hard work and artistic skills.

Art teacher Darla Linerode-Henson coordinated the project in her art room. Several of her colleagues on the faculty joined in the fun, including PE teachers Spencer McLean and Garrett Harrison, as well as Learning Coaches Abbie Fowler and Amy Fruitt, 2nd grade teacher Beth Diaz, and substitute teacher Rhonda Test.

Several parents, Olga King and Brian Fowler, joined in the fun.

All in all, it was a team effort, led by our great art teacher, Mrs. Linerode-Henson.

PDS hopes that Grizzlies fans enjoy the art.

2013 Crusader Football for Rising 5th-6th Graders

Thursday, 16 May 2013 - by Dennis Smith

Dear Rising 5th and 6th Grade Parents,

I hope this letter finds you doing well after a very busy year. For those of you who are interested, in addition to our intramural season, we will offer a 5th Grade and a 6th Grade Crusader team. As always, our PDS coaches will be coaching these teams with Mark Fruitt heading up the 5th Grade team and Dwight Creasman heading up the 6th Grade team.

Meeting for 5th Grade
There will be a brief parents meeting for 5th Grade only (current 4th Graders) on Monday, May 20th at 8:15am in Room E111. Please make every effort to have at least one parent in attendance. We anticipate that the meeting will be over by 8:45am.

Practice
We will begin practice Thursday, August 8th. The practice schedule is as follows: weekdays August 8th-13th from 9:00-11:00am. Practice times after the 13th are TBA. Boys will be in shorts, t-shirts, and helmets on the first two days of practice. The rest of the week the boys will be in full pads.

Each player needs to provide his own shoulder pads, football pants, cleats, and white helmet for practice. The school will provide the game uniform and helmet.

There are no tryouts; however, these teams may not be for everyone and playing time is not guaranteed. Crusader football players must also play in the PDS intramural football league. The Crusaders are competitive level teams and are for boys that want more games and practices in addition to the intramural league.

Cost
The cost for playing Crusader football is $175.00 and is due the first week of practice.

If you have any other questions, please contact Coach Fruitt 842-4610 or Coach Creasman 842-4625. You will be receiving more information on the first day of practice. As always, thank you for your support and here’s to a great upcoming season.
