This week we will be learning about consonant digraphs. Consonant digraphs are two letters working together to make a single sound.

Focus: WH and TH

Examples: this, then, thud. when, whip. than, math, path, which, whiz, that, moth, thus, whim, whop

* These 10 words will not necessarily be the words on the test friday!

In addition, we will have 5 sight words on our spelling test. 3 of these words are new and 2 are review from last week. We always provide you with these words so that you can study these at home. Please make sure you are studying these words nightly!

Reading- All That Corn- Our reading skill for this story is sequencing. Book Clubs have begun!! Your son will attend Book Club every other day.

English- What is a verb?

Social Studies- Why are laws important? What does the city council do?

Math- pennies and nickels, number grid work, straight edge work, and number models

A Red Hot Week!

We hope you all enjoyed the Labor Day Holiday. The boys got fired up about using their wood pieces to begin making letters. They all did an A+ job of using their lines to form As. Try to form the letter of the week at home with the paper “wood” pieces we sent home. We did many things with apples because of its beginning sound. We graphed apples, painted apples, ate apple slices, and even made apple pies on Friday! They were yummy and we would like to thank Hyde’s mom and Louis’s mom for being our cooking moms and getting our ingredients. We met Rudy Rectangle, and red was the color of the week. We have looked for this shape and color in many ways. We have used Playdough, books, songs, and our Smartboard for this. Boys tend to be “hands on” learners. During center time we are putting things out that they can manipulate and build with, which will strengthen fine motor skills. We will continue to do this throughout the year. We also began our unit on Nursery Rhymes and learned Humpty Dumpty. We will be sending home each Nursery Rhyme craft as the boys finish. You can put them together to make his very own Nursery Rhyme booklet. We hope you enjoy them. We hope to see YOU at the PDS Jamboree on Saturday!

A Red Hot Week

We hope you all enjoyed the Labor Day Holiday. The boys got fired up about using their wood pieces to begin making letters. They all did an A+ job of using their lines to form A’s. Try to form the letter of the week at home with the paper “wood” pieces we sent home.

We did many things with apples because of apple beginning with the letter A. We graphed apples, painted apples, ate apple slices, counted apple seeds, and even made apple pies on Thursday! They were yummy and we would like to thank Samuel’s mom for being our cooking mom and getting our ingredients.

We were introduced to Rudy Rectangle and red was the color of the week. We used play dough, books, songs, and our SMART Board to explore the rectangle and the color red. We searched our room for things that were rectangles or red.

Boys tend to be “hands on” learners. During center time we are putting things out that they can manipulate and build with which will strengthen fine motor skills. We will continue to do this throughout the year.

We also began our unit on Nursery Rhymes. We learned Humpty Dumpty this week. We will be sending home each Nursery Rhyme craft as the boys finish. You can put them together to make his very own Nursery Rhyme booklet. We hope you enjoy them.

Don't forget the required questions that must be addressed in your answer. Required questions - Why was there a need for a canal? How did the U.S. gain the strip of land for the canal (revolt against Colombia)? What hardships were encountered during the building? How long did it take to complete the canal? When did it open? What is happening in the Panana Canal Zone today (expansion project)? One page minimun for this answer. Look for rich details. The grading rubic is in my documents on my teacher page.
