PDS Campus Closed

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your patience as PDS continues to monitor the spread of COVID–19 around the world and here in our community. As of this writing, many schools in our area have decided to close to help slow down the spread of the virus. Given all of the information at hand, PDS will not open as expected on Monday, March 16.

We will make this decision to close on a week by week basis. For the moment, PDS will be closed through March 20 March 31, 2020 (Please see the latest update from Headmaster Hancock for the latest information on a possible reopening date). This decision includes all curricular, extracurricular, and athletic events. All facilities, including gyms, fields and playgrounds, will be closed to everyone. We are working to reschedule the Strategic Parenting event planned for Thursday night, March 19th.

We will move to a distance learning model on Wednesday, March 18. The faculty will use Monday and Tuesday to plan and prepare to deliver as much curriculum as possible through the internet. These plans are forming now and will be communicated over the next few days. We understand that students have materials and devices at school, and we will be creating a plan for students to retrieve these items. PDS has been undergoing a deep cleaning over the past week and the building is in great shape.

We know distance learning is not possible for our youngest students. Our teachers for grades YK-JK will be communicating daily with activities and resources you can use with your child at home. Your teachers will be available via email during normal school hours. We will utilize the Seesaw app and Google Classroom to continue the learning process in grades SK–6.

Our plans are developing and changing daily. I will be regularly communicating information as it becomes available.

For now, please pray for our community. Pray for the stop of the spread of the virus and the protection of our most vulnerable. If you know of anyone in the PDS community who needs help, please let me know.

I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience this news will cause your family.

Thank you,
Steve
