This month at PDS we are learning how to bring glory to God by being Bold Adventurers. We are excited to share a challenge with you that will serve our Memphis community and give PDS boys an opportunity to be a Bold Adventurer.

Former PDS dad Steve Nash (Stephen Nash ’19) is the founder of a non-profit in Memphis called Advance Memphis. The mission of Advance is to empower adults in South Memphis to break cycles of unemployment, establish economic stability, reconcile relationships, and restore dignity through knowledge, resources, and skills by the power of Jesus Christ. They offer soft skills job training programs, Faith & Finance courses, entrepreneurship classes, and jobs for the people in the 38126 area code. This February, they are running a “Share the Love Supply Drive” to gather basic school supplies for those who take their classes. Starting Wednesday, February 12 and running until Thursday, February 20th, we at PDS are going all in and committing to supporting and participating in the Drive, and we are challenging our whole community to get involved.

Steve Nash spoke in 4th - 6th grade chapel today to introduce Advance Memphis to the boys and illustrate the need for school supplies and the unexpected value they have. We announced the PDS Drive to them this morning as well - challenging them to use this upcoming long weekend to be Bold Adventurers and gather as many supplies as they could.

4th, 5th, and 6th Grade Challenge:

We are challenging our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to be Bold Adventurers and go door to door in their neighborhood asking for any extra supplies that can be donated. They can go in groups, you can go as a family; the structure is up to you! The boys should get creative and take ownership of this project by developing plans to gather supplies that are bold and courageous.

EC, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade Challenge:

We are challenging them to gather supplies by doing chores around the house to earn either supplies or money to bring in. Please help them be bold and allow them to be creative in how they earn the supplies.

Advance Memphis has a list of desired supplies for their courses. Their supply list looks very similar to one you may get at the beginning of your child's school year. We are distributing those lists to every boy today. Advance Memphis also has a wishlist on Amazon that includes almost everything on the list as well as a few other big ticket items.

Starting tomorrow, boys who bring in supplies for the Drive will be eligible for a chance to win a spot prize as they walk through the lobby. If we reach our participation goal and fill our bin with items from the wishlist, we will have a school wide dress down day. Based on participation through the week we will announce new incentives at the end of each day.

Chick-Fil-A Breakfast on Thursday, February 20

The morning of Thursday, February 20th we will be having a Chick-Fil-A breakfast to celebrate the end of the Drive. All proceeds from that breakfast will go towards Advance Memphis.

Being a Bold Adventurer starts at home. Thank you so much for helping your son tangibly express what he is learning this February through serving others and bringing Glory to God.
