Crusader Basketball Try-Outs

Crusader Basketball Try-Outs

Dear 5th and 6th Grade Parents,

The Athletic Dept. is excited about the upcoming Crusader Basketball season. This year we will offer two separate teams, a 5th Grade team and a 6th Grade team. David Rose and Paul Warner will coach the 5th Grade team. Mark Fruitt and Luke Wise will coach the 6th Grade team. Try-outs for the Crusader Basketball teams will be held on Tuesday, October 15th, from 3:15–5:00pm and Thursday, October 17th, from 3:15 – 5:00pm in the PDS gym. Boys should be picked up at the main entrance at 5:00pm. Try-outs will be closed to all parents and spectators.

The Crusader Basketball teams are designed for boys who want additional opportunities for basketball practice and games. However, playing time is not guaranteed. While it will be more intense and competitive than our intramural basketball program, it will be consistent with our philosophy and high standards relating to sportsmanship and keeping athletics within a proper framework.

Assuming more boys try out than the ten spots available for each team, we will have to make cuts (unlike Crusader Football). Before try-outs, we will talk to the boys about their attitudes and responses to the selection process. We hope and think that our 5th and 6th grade boys are mature enough to handle the disappointments that some of them may experience by not being chosen. Boys that play Crusader Basketball are also encouraged to play in the Intramural league because the two programs do not conflict. Looking forward to a great season!

Thanks,
Dennis Smith
