Dear PK Parents,
Â
This email is to inform you that a case of head lice, pediculosis, has been reported in PK.
Â
Don’t panic! It can happen to anyone, anywhere. As you may know, it is highly communicable. It can be spread by direct contact from an infested person by using the personal items of others such as combs, towels, brushes, and by wearing the clothing of others, especially hats.
Â
Please help us stop this pest by checking your son’s head. You may see the lice or small silvery egg cases attached to the base of individual hairs. If you find lice on your son’s head, you should consult your physician for advice on treatment and communicate with the PDS nurse. Your son may come back to school when he is lice and nit free. He will need to stop by the nurse’s office on his way into school before heading to the classroom. Please take precautions to clean clothing, hats, pillows, and bedding.
Â
If you do not see any lice or nits at this time, we do ask that you continue to monitor your son for persistent itching or scratching and check his head periodically.
Â
Your understanding and cooperation in this matter is appreciated.
Â
Â
Sincerely,
Â
Â
