All grades listed are for the 2020–2021 school year. Admission is granted to qualified campers in the order in which our database receives your registration. Registration will remain open online until a week prior to the first day of camp unless a registration deadline is specifically stated. Many classes fill up, so we encourage you to enroll early.
Pre-Kindergarten campers must be 3 years of age by June 1st, 2020. However, in the case of Vacation Bible School with Second Presbyterian Church, they must be 3 years of age by January 1st, 2020. If they are too young to attend VBS, alternate care will be provided. All campers attending enrichment camps must be potty-trained.
Extending Summer to YK
Boys who are enrolled in the PDS YK program for the 2020-2021 school year are eligible to attend Camp PDS and Crusader Care with our new, age-appropriate curriculum. In addition, 2-year-old family members of current or incoming PDS students are eligible to attend Camp PDS and Crusader Care. Two-year-old campers must be 2 by June 1st, 2020.
All registrations will be processed online at pdsmemphis.org/summer and a confirmation email will be sent to you when you have correctly completed the registration process.
Campers who are students enrolled at PDS will have the option to bill to their student’s account or choose to pay with a credit card. Campers who are not enrolled at PDS must select the pay by credit card option to enroll in camp. Payment in full will be due at the time of registration.
If you need to cancel your camp reservation, a $50 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund. The $50 cancellation fee will be refunded if a camp is cancelled for any reason related to COVID-19 including, but not limited to, the school is unable to open, restrictions are placed on group sizes, or a registrant or a staff member has tested positive or been exposed and must quarantine. In addition to receiving a complete refund, the registrant’s name will be put on a list for Summer 2021 Priority Registration.
If, one week prior to the first day of camp, registration enrollment is deemed to be insufficient, PDS reserves the right to cancel that camp. If this were to occur, your payment would be refunded in full. Except in the cases of illness or emergency that are disclosed to PDS prior to the start of a camp, refunds will not be given after a camp begins. Unfortunately, PDS is unable to prorate a camp fee for any day(s) your child may miss.
Cancellation Due to COVID-19
PDS continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and is adjusting our calendar accordingly. Registrants will receive email updates regarding the cancellation of any camps due to COVID-19 and information regarding their refund. If a camp is rescheduled, and a registrant is unable to attend, they will receive a full refund and be placed on the Summer 2021 Priority Registration list. We will strive for timely updates as we monitor this ever-changing situation.
Family Package & Sibling Discount
PDS offers two summer discounts to accommodate various situations.
For families attending four or more weeks of camp, we offer a Family Package discount.
Once all children have been registered, we will calculate the number of complete weeks your family has registered for. We will consider two half-week options as a full week, even if they are not on the same calendar week. Whether you are registering one child or multiple, the Family Package discount will reflect the total number of full and half week options all children are registered for, excluding Vacation Bible School. The discount is available for those who register before
May June 15, 2020.
- 10% off for 4–7 complete weeks of camp
- 15% off for 8 or more complete weeks of camp
Families enrolling in fewer than 4 full weeks of camp or who register after the May June 15 Family Package cut-off date are eligible for the Sibling Discount. The Sibling Discount is $10 off per family per week.
Camp PDS/Crusader Care Plus Half-Day Enrichment Camp Discount
PK–6th-grade campers attending half-day camps may enroll in Camp PDS or Crusader Care for the other half of the day for an additional fee of $85 per week. Campers will be transitioned between camps. PK campers utilizing this option during the afternoon should bring a blanket or mat cover for a rest period.
Before Camp Care is available to registered campers from 7:30–9:00am for an additional charge of $30 per week. Campers must be registered for a camp beginning at 9:00am to attend Before Camp Care.
After Camp Care is available to registered campers from 3:00–5:30pm for an additional charge of $60 per week. Campers must be registered for a camp ending at 3:00pm or 4:00pm to attend After Camp Care. Campers picked up past 5:30pm will be charged a $25 late fee. After 5:35pm, an additional late fee of $5 per minute will apply.
An option for Before and After Camp Care is included on the form when you register for a camp. You may add this option after your original registration here.
After Care and Before Care drop-off and pick-up are located at the main school entrance. Before and after camp care is not available for camps off of the PDS campus.
Drop-Off and Dismissal Locations
If a camper is attending a camp held in the Early Childhood building, drop-off and dismissal will be at the Early Childhood entrance or playground. If a camper is attending a camp held in the Elementary building or in the gym, drop-off and dismissal will be at the main school entrance.
Appropriate entrances will be signposted. For the safety and security of all participants, campers who arrive prior to 10 minutes before the start of camp, will be taken to Before-Camp Care and charged the $30 fee for the week. Campers attending only a morning camp who have not been picked up by 10 minutes after their camp session ends, will be escorted to Camp PDS or Crusader Care and charged a $35 drop-in fee. Campers attending an afternoon or full-day camp who have not been picked up by 10 minutes after their camp session ends, will be escorted to After-Camp Care and charged a $25 drop-in fee.
Lunch and Drinks
Students attending a full-day camp or two half-day sessions will need to bring a sack lunch each day. Snacks and water will be provided.
For students attending both morning and afternoon enrichment offerings, there will be a supervised lunch hour between the sessions for no additional fee, but please check the box on the registration form for the free lunch supervision option so that we can plan adequate supervision.
It is expected that every camper attending PDS Summer Camp follows school procedures and standards of behavior. Consideration of others in thought and action is expected. PDS reserves the right to require the withdrawal of any camper who poses a discipline problem or a disruption to the learning process. No refunds will be issued for campers who are asked to withdraw.
The PDS building and Summer Camp facilities will be regularly sanitized throughout the summer by our housekeeping staff. Commonly touched areas will be sanitized throughout the day by staff members. Staff members will be closely monitoring campers and helping them practice proper hygiene and frequent hand washing.
T-shirt, shorts, socks and athletic shoes are most appropriate. Sandals are allowed, but athletic shoes are required for gym and field activities.
- Most Enrichment Camps are limited to 9 registrants. For camps where this is not feasible, like Day Camp, Crusader Care, and Sports camps, campers will be assigned a small group or “cohort” for the duration of the camp. Camps will maintain a 9:1 camper-staff ratio. This ratio may change upon new information from the CDC or local health officials. We will follow new guidelines as they become available.
- Each camp or cohort will stay together with an assigned staff member in an assigned space.
- Staff are required to wear cloth face coverings.
- Campers age two or older are highly encouraged to wear cloth masks, bandanas, or gators. We recommend washing cloth face coverings daily.
- However, if a camper touches their face more due to the cloth covering, they will be asked to take it off.
- When napping or playing outside, campers will not wear face masks. Campers will have a designated spot for their masks when they are not being worn and will use hand sanitizer or wash their hands before putting the mask on again.
- Wherever social distancing can be practiced, it should. Where a distance of six feet cannot be maintained, staff members and campers are reminded that “further is better.”
- Staff will use visual tools like hula hoops, poly spots, or approved floor tape to mark appropriate spacing for children. Children will sit at opposite heads of the table with no more than two children per table in rooms that do not have individual desks.
- Staff members will practice frequent hand-washing and facilitate frequent hand-washing for the campers, as well. Each classroom will also have hand sanitizer.
- Washing hands with soap and water will be required after going to the bathroom, blowing one’s nose, before and after eating, and after touching one’s face. Campers will use hand sanitizer every time they enter the classroom, including before and after going outside or to the gym. Staff will supervise campers to ensure they are washing their hands at the appropriate times.
- Temperatures will be taken and recorded multiple times throughout the day, including any transition time, such as after Before Care, between morning and afternoon camps, and before After Care. Anyone with a temperature above 100 degrees Farenheight will be sent home.
- High-touch areas will be cleaned frequently. Each classroom will have cleaning and disinfecting supplies.
- Staff members will begin each day with a reminder about personal health and prevention best practices.
- We will refrain from any singing activities unless the activity can happen outside with at least 15 feet between campers. We will also refrain from shouting or yelling, as this increases the projection of droplets. We will provide staff with adequate equipment to communicate over the sound of campers without using a projected voice.
- We will maintain signage with up-to-date reminders and information about preventing the spread of COVID and maintaining personal health.
- We will not permit guests to enter the building during summer camps. Parents and staff members who are not working at camps will not be permitted in childcare areas except in emergency situations.
- Staff members will be trained prior to the start of camp regarding these protocols. Staff members will also be screened daily before entering the building.
- A nurse will be on campus to assist with morning and mid-day temperature screenings.
Camp Arrival Procedure
- We will have multiple stations for Pick Up and Drop Off. Stations will be clearly marked. Before exiting the car on the first morning, we will confirm parents are at the correct entrance.
- Campers stay in their cars until they are cleared by a health check. First, they will have their temperature taken. The camper’s temperature must be below 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Should a camper’s temperature be between 100 degrees and 101 degrees Fahrenheit with a scanning thermometer, staff will follow up with an oral thermometer. If an oral thermometer reads under 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the camper will be admitted.
- Following the temperature check, a staff member will ask the camper and/or his or her parent the following question. All answers must be no.
- Have you or anyone in your family been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
- Are you or anyone in your family experiencing a cough, shortness of breath or sore throat?
- Have you or anyone in your family had a fever in the last 48 hours?
- Have you taken fever-suppressing medicine, like Tylenol or Advil, this morning?
- Have you or anyone in your family had new loss of taste or smell?
- Have you or anyone in your family had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours?
- If a camper is unable to exit the car on their own, his or her parent should take the camper out of the car. The camper will be given hand sanitizer to use before entering the building.
- Younger campers will be escorted to their camp by a staff member. Older campers will follow signage to their camp.
- Outside toys, stuffed animals, electronic devices, and any other personal belongings other than a water bottle, lunchbox, and any necessary medical supplies will not be allowed on campus.
- Campers should immediately place belongings in their designated spot.
Camp Dismissal Procedure
- Parents will pick children up at the same station where they were dropped off. They will be given a sign to place on their dashboard with the child’s last name.
- Depending on the proximity to the station, campers will either remain in their classroom until dismissed or move to designated space near the dismissal area if multiple camps are dismissing from the same station.
- A staff member will be outside at Drop Off and communicate with staff members inside when a parent arrives to pick up their child.
- A cleaning crew will clean and sanitize the building overnight.
- Staff members will have access to cleaning supplies and frequently clean high-touch surfaces, as well as cleaning after snacks and meals.
- High-touch areas include, but are not limited to, doorknobs, light switches, sink faucets, toilet seats and handles, chairs, and tables.
- Supplies will be cleaned in-between uses.
- Any common areas, such as the playground or gym, will be cleaned between uses.
- Whenever possible, each camper will have his own supplies. These supplies will have a designated, labeled area.
- If a supply must be shared between campers, that item should be limited to one cohort or camp and cleaned between uses.
- Staff members must wash their hands before serving food, before and after eating, and after cleaning up.
- Staff members must wear gloves when distributing food and cleaning up after snacks and meals.
- Snacks and meals will be served each camp/cohort’s designated space rather than a cafeteria.
- Campers will be required to wash their hands before and after eating.
- Campers will be spaced out during meals and will not be seated directly across the table from another person.
- We will serve pre-packaged snacks, and each camper is responsible for bringing his own lunch. Campers are not allowed to share or trade food.
- Water fountain spouts will be closed. We encourage the use of reusable water bottles that are washed after each night of camp. Disposable cups will be provided to campers who do not have a reusable water bottle.
- Each camp or cohort will be given a designated facility space that will be utilized by only that camp or cohort.
- Before the week begins, windows will be opened in any facilities where it is possible. Each day, weather permitting, windows will be opened after campers leave in order to create air circulation.
- Weather permitting and save for an instance where a medical condition makes it detrimental for participants (i.e. environmental allergies, asthma, etc.), windows will be opened during camp to increase air circulation.
- We encourage staff members to leave their classroom doors open as much as possible.
- As much as possible, we will rotate the use of facilities. Morning and afternoon camps in the same week will be in different spaces. Facilities used by different camps or cohorts at the same time will be spaced out throughout the building.
- The playground and gym will have an assigned schedule for use. After each camp or cohort leaves, the playground will be disinfected before the next group uses the space. Any gym equipment used will be disinfected.
- Each camp or cohort will have an assigned restroom to limit the possibility of cross-contamination. Each restroom will be cleaned throughout the day. We will limit the number of campers in the restroom at a time.
If Someone Develops Symptoms at Camp
- If a staff member develops COVID symptoms or has a temperature of above 100 degrees Farenheight at camp, they will go home immediately.
- If a camper develops COVID symptoms or has a temperature of above 100 degrees Farenheight at camp, they will be placed in an isolation room away from other people in the building. This room will not be the nurse’s office. Camper’s parents will be notified, and the parent must pick up their child and his or her siblings immediately. We highly encourage parents to take any child with a fever to be tested for COVID.
- We will take the temperature of anyone who has had contact with the person who has developed a fever or symptoms and monitor for symptoms.
- Anyone who is sent home due to the possibility of COVID will be issued a pro-rated refund for any days missed.
- We will close any suspected contaminated areas for at least 24 hours and disinfect them before they are re-opened.
- We will contact the Shelby County Health Department to report any suspected or confirmed COVID cases. We will provide a roster and cooperate with contact tracing and quarantine policies.
- Should a staff member or camper test positive, we will immediately contact parents whose child(ren) have been exposed to the individual who tested positive. We will cease operation of that camp or cohort and all individuals who were exposed may only return when they fit one of the qualifications listed below.
Returning to Camp
- Any camper or staff member who was not allowed entry due to COVID symptoms or was sent home due to COVID symptoms must be cleared either by a doctor or a negative COVID test before returning to camp.
- Anyone awaiting results for a COVID test should not come to camp until they have a negative test result.
- Campers or staff members who test negative, but have had a fever should be fever-free for at least 72 hours without medicine.
- Campers who have been exposed to a positive case of COVID may return to camp either upon receiving negative test results or after being symptom-free for 14 days after exposure.
- Staff will complete training before beginning work.
- At the beginning of each day, staff will be screened and have their temperature checked. They must answer no to all questions below and have a temperature below 100 degrees Fahrenheit to be allowed in the building.
- Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days? (Note: does not apply to medical personnel, first responders, or other individuals who encounter COVID-19 as part of their professional or caregiving duties while wearing appropriate PPE)
- Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath or sore throat?
- Have you had a fever in the last 48 hours?
- Have you had new loss of taste or smell?
- Have you had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours?
- We will create a roster of staff members so that we are able to replace any staff member who is under the weather. If a staff member develops COVID symptoms or is exposed to a person with a confirmed or suspected positive case, they will not return to work until they are cleared by a negative test.
- We will designate a staff member to monitor the frequent cleaning of facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, visiting camps & cohorts to remind other staff members to clean, ensuring proper cleaning of Pick Up and Drop Off stations, disinfecting high-touch areas in common areas and hallways, and monitoring the cleaning of restrooms and hallways.
- We will designate a staff member to be the point-person for responding to COVID concerns. All employees in the building will know who this person is and how to contact them.
- Staff members must start the week with an age-appropriate explanation of the new guidelines in place for campers’ safety. This training will be focused on how to stay safe and healthy, as well as normalizing masks. Staff will provide reminders at the beginning of each day.
