
Pitt Hyde '55
Pitt Hyde is an American entrepreneur best known as the founder of AutoZone, one of the largest automotive parts retailers in the United States. Born on December 18, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, Hyde pursued a degree in business administration from the University of Memphis.
In 1979, he established AutoZone, initially as a wholesale auto parts distributor. Under his leadership, the company expanded rapidly, revolutionizing the automotive retail industry with its customer-focused approach and innovative store formats. AutoZone went public in 1991 and has since grown to thousands of locations nationwide.
Beyond his work with AutoZone, Hyde is also recognized for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in education and community development in Memphis. He has served on various boards and has been involved in numerous charitable initiatives, reflecting his commitment to giving back to the community.
Hyde was recognized as Presbyterian Day School's 2008 Distinguished Alumnus.
