Do you want to master your chess skills, increase your ranking, play more matches, and learn more strategy? Come to PDS Chess Club to learn and play in friendly competition against one another. Beginner Chess players welcome. We partner with Memphis Chess Club and have two experienced and highly rated certified Chess Instructors working with the boys on all types of chess strategy. Come for lots of learning and loads of fun!

Want to spend time after school exploring and creating? Come to Minecraft Club and build with your friends! In this exciting adventure, you will get to participate in building competitions with other boys, mine for precious resources, and fight off those pesky mobs together! Please note that due to the nature of this camp, campers will have one hour of screen time each meeting.

Young Filmmakers - Session 1

Be the star of a movie! In fact, be the writer, producer, director, and editor while you’re at it! In the Young Filmmakers Club, you will create your own movie or TV show using iMovie and Apple Clips. You will gain valuable experience working with the program and experiencing all aspects of creating a movie. You will help film Intramural Basketball Games to create a highlight video! You will also be involved in making videos we show in Chapel!

Reader's Theatre 1st Grade 2nd Grade

You are invited to our Reader’s Theatre! During these 5 weeks we will practice our reading, fluency and expression through reading and performing parts in many different stories. No need to memorize here! On the last day we will show our new skills and confidence off in the last few minutes of class. (More details to follow)

Sculpture

Boys will create a clay catch-all or themed slab box that will be fired in the kiln and glazed. Boys will also sculpt a paper pulp bowl that they will paint. Open to all ages in elementary. Skills will vary by age, and will be able to work with all levels of experience.

Please note, we will be using, clay, paper, glue and glazes, hands will get dirty and dress to make a mess. "

Create a Comic!

Students will create marbled paper in the first session, the following session students will learn how to put characters in a setting, how to create a story line and illustrate their comics. This will be a 6 week course, meeting every Tuesday from 2:45–4:00.

Could get messy with paint on day 1!

Parent Book Club - The Anxious Generation

After more than a decade of stability or improvement, the mental health of adolescents plunged in the early 2010s. Rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicide rose sharply, more than doubling on many measures. Why?

Join us a for a study of The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness by Jonathan Haidt.

Led by PDS' Jenny Stenberg, Emily Lequerica, and Darilyn Christenbury, the study will take place over 3 sessions offered from 11:30–1:00 on Tuesdays in the Library starting on September 17. Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch.
